The winter recruitment period is always a time of feverish rumour and potential major moves. Several high-profile players find themselves linked with transfers away from their present clubs. We examine a selection of the top names who could be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to qualify for the AFCON, which has left the player in contention, indications are an important transfer is imminent. Brennan Johnson

This Wales winger has found starting minutes limited at Spurs this term. Despite finishing as the club's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has started just a handful of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the London club would be willing to consider a sale for the right valuation, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally credited with an inquiry.

Spurs value the Welsh international at approximately £40m.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be poised for a return to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. The Turin club are eager to tie down the youngster to a lengthy agreement but face a race to keep one of Europe's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Netherlands midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ side. This 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a big-money move this month. Newcastle reportedly are frontrunners, but are facing stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
